Mission of the Department

The mission of the Department of Financial Accounting is to advance scientific knowledge and foster its continuous development based on the latest global achievements, while promoting education among a broad community of students and training academic staff in accordance with the highest educational and ethical standards, with due respect for tradition.

The Department of Financial Accounting is committed to the ongoing development of its faculty members to enable comprehensive research, intellectual exchange, and the pursuit of their aspirations in an environment that respects diversity of views and expectations. In doing so, the Department fulfills its social mission by drawing on the experience of past generations and contributing to future ones, which will benefit from the outcomes of its work. This approach aligns with the mission of the Cracow University of Economics: “Rerum cognoscere causas et valorem…”

Vision of the Department

The Department will become a modern organizational unit of the Cracow University of Economics, providing educational, research, advisory, and opinion-forming functions, actively engaged in academic, teaching, and practical forums at local, national, and international levels. It will be a welcoming environment for faculty, doctoral candidates, seminar participants, and students, enabling them to pursue their aspirations and remain open to changes occurring in its surrounding context.

Activities of the Department

The Department of Financial Accounting was established in 1996. It currently forms part of the Institute of Finance within the College of Economics, Finance, and Law at the Cracow University of Economics.

Both the research activities of its faculty and the courses offered across numerous study programs determine its position in the academic landscape not only in Kraków but throughout Poland.

The Department’s research focuses on issues related to financial reporting, analysis, and auditing, both in the context of Polish and international solutions. These studies are complemented by the latest developments presented by recognized international organizations, in which the Department’s members actively participate and share their scientific achievements (International Association for Accounting Education and Research – IAAER, European Accounting Association – EAA, Integrated Reporting Academic Research Support Group). Equally important are the roles they play in the Association of Accountants in Poland and the National Chamber of Statutory Auditors.

The Department of Financial Accounting continuously expands its educational profile in line with labor market requirements and trends. The faculty deliver courses (lectures, tutorials, computer labs) within full-time, part-time, doctoral, and postgraduate programs – including ACCA and CIMA. It is worth to emphasize that the teaching process combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications derived from professional experience. Many members of the Department are certified auditors, tax advisors, and members of supervisory boards of leading Polish companies.
